A human rights activist, identified as Shervin, has issued an urgent plea for international attention to the severe human rights situation in Iran, claiming over 43,000 "defenseless Iranians" have been massacred in the past 100 days. The activist's tweet, directed at prominent U.S. political figures including former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Senator J.D. Vance, and Senator Marco Rubio, demanded an immediate halt to executions and the unconditional release of all political prisoners. The post also called for the return of assets to these prisoners and their families.
"100 days since the massacre of 43,000+ defenseless Iranians. Executions are proceedings every day and speeding up. All executions must stop and all political prisoners must be released free and clear of any charges and their assets and their family’s assets returned to them," Shervin stated in the social media post.
While the specific figure of 43,000+ casualties in 100 days has not been corroborated by major human rights organizations in relation to recent protest crackdowns, reports from groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch confirm a dire and escalating human rights crisis. These organizations have documented over 500 deaths during the Mahsa Amini protests that began in late 2022, alongside thousands of arbitrary detentions, torture, and other ill-treatment of activists and journalists. Iranian authorities have intensified their crackdown on dissent in recent months, with a significant increase in executions, often following unfair trials and lacking due process.
The U.S. Department of State and the White House have consistently condemned Iran's human rights abuses, including arbitrary detentions and executions. President Biden and Vice President Harris have publicly addressed the situation, calling for accountability and supporting the Iranian people's right to peaceful protest, and demanding the release of political prisoners. Senators Rubio and Vance have also been vocal critics of the Iranian regime's human rights record, advocating for stronger international action and sanctions related to these issues.
International bodies, including UN human rights experts, have repeatedly expressed grave concern over the systematic use of arbitrary detention, lack of fair trials, and the escalating number of executions in Iran. They have called for the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained individuals, including human rights defenders and those arrested during protests. Despite these consistent international appeals, reports suggest Iran continues its policy of repression, with calls for global accountability often going unheeded by the regime.
