Anthropic Labs has launched Claude Design, an AI-powered tool that leverages conversational prompts and integrated brand guidelines to generate a wide array of visual content, from slide decks to interactive prototypes. The new offering, powered by the advanced Claude Opus 4.7 vision model, allows users to quickly produce on-brand designs, significantly streamlining creative workflows for both designers and non-designers. It is currently available in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.
The tool operates with a distinct "ontology" for input and output, according to early user Yohei. The input ontology focuses on brand elements such as logos, colors, and fonts, effectively incorporating a company's brand guidelines as a "shared context" for all generated content. This ensures that outputs consistently adhere to established visual identities.
Yohei highlighted the system's efficiency, stating, "I can drop in a blog post, and say 'turn it into slides' and the deck it creates follows the brand guideline." The output ontology includes formats like HTML for slides, decks, and business cards, with further structured elements such as headers and tables. This capability allows for rapid transformation of textual content into visually compliant presentations.
Claude Design is positioned as a significant expansion of Anthropic's ecosystem, building upon the capabilities of Claude Code, which it utilizes "under the hood." The integration facilitates a seamless transition from design to development, enabling users to generate designs and then hand them off for implementation. Export options include PPT/PDF, Canva, and standalone HTML files, though some users have noted occasional issues with exports when hitting usage limits.
The launch has sent ripples through the design software market, with some analysts noting its potential to challenge established players like Figma and Canva by democratizing design creation. Anthropic emphasizes interoperability, offering integrations and export functionalities designed to complement existing tools rather than solely replace them. The company aims to empower a broader range of professionals to create polished visual work efficiently.
