Neeza Powers, a figure who gained prominence as a Catholic "detransitioner," has announced a re-transition back to identifying as a "woman," according to a recent social media post. This development comes after various reports exposed significant fabrications within his widely shared personal narrative, including details about his age and initial transition timeline. The announcement has sparked renewed discussion and scrutiny regarding his public persona.
Powers, born Thomas Ryan Powers, had previously identified as a woman named Nicole for over a decade before publicly detransitioning in mid-2025. He subsequently garnered a large following by sharing a narrative of Christian conversion and embracing his biological sex, advocating against men in women's spaces, and pursuing Catholicism. His story was frequently shared across Christian and conservative media platforms.
However, Christian news outlet Protestia published an exposé in February, presenting evidence that Powers had misrepresented major parts of his story. Investigations revealed inconsistencies in his age, with public records indicating he was born in 1989, making him 36, rather than the 29 he claimed. Furthermore, his asserted timeline of starting puberty blockers at 16 and transitioning as a teen was contradicted by photographic evidence suggesting his transition occurred much later, closer to age 30.
The re-transition announcement, initially posted as an Instagram "trial reel," cited "self-loathing" as a primary motivator. Powers stated, "The self-loathing I’ve had for the last eight months has been excruciating... My heart is better to serve Him without hating myself. My heart is better as a partner to Charlotte without hating my existence, enforcing an identity on myself." This statement suggests a struggle with the identity he had recently adopted.
Critics, including BlazeTV host Allie Beth Stuckey, have suggested that Powers' various public transitions and detransitions might be a calculated "stunt to build a massive following and monetize attention." Stuckey pointed to the use of Instagram's "trial reel" feature for the re-transition announcement as an indicator that he might be "putting out two different narratives." Following the exposure of his fabricated backstory, Powers reportedly lost over 100,000 followers across his social media platforms.
