Plane, the open-source and AI-native project management platform, has rolled out its significant v2.6.0 update, delivering a suite of new features primarily aimed at its self-hosting community. The release integrates all innovations from the company's recent "launch week" into a single, comprehensive package, according to a social media announcement by Vihar Kurama.
"@planepowers v2.6.0 is here. Self-hosters, this is one of our biggest! Everything from launch week is now live for self-hosted, in a single release," stated Vihar Kurama in the tweet.
A cornerstone of the update is the introduction of PQL (Plane Query Language), enabling users to filter work items with text-based queries. This powerful language allows for structured expressions using fields, operators, and logical conditions (AND/OR) to precisely locate information across various project elements. Queries can be saved as views for efficient reuse.
The update also elevates Releases to a first-class feature, allowing teams to create and manage releases across projects, group work items by release, and track progress on dedicated detail pages. This enhancement facilitates changelog generation directly from release data, improving transparency and communication.
For knowledge management, Plane introduces Collections in Wiki, providing a structured way to organize Wiki pages with drag-and-drop reordering and a dedicated permission system. This aims to simplify navigation and management of documentation within the platform. Additionally, the work item detail page has been rebuilt for improved readability and user experience, with key properties prominently displayed and activity logs segmented into tabs like "All," "Comments," "History," and "Transitions."
Enterprise users will benefit from IdP Group Sync, which automates the provisioning and synchronization of project memberships by mapping identity provider groups to Plane projects over OIDC. This feature supports sync on login and scheduled offline sync, configurable role assignments, and optional auto-removal when users leave an IdP group, streamlining user management for larger organizations. Other notable additions include the ability to upvote and downvote work items, link sub-work items across projects, and a new Table chart widget for Dashboards.
