Oxitec ships the eggs in small boxes.
Add water → eggs hatch → mosquitoes mature in 10 days → fly off to mate → mission complete.
Suzano in São Paulo is one of the cities already running this.
And the company claims up to a 90% drop in local mosquito populations where it's been tried before.
Florida Keys tried it back in 2021.
Other countries have gone a different route — infecting mosquitoes with Wolbachia bacteria, which blocks their ability to transmit dengue at all.
Brazil is now doing both, at scale.
