Samsung just wrote a $1.8 billion check to buy into the world's hottest drug category.
And it's not for a phone chip.
It's for skinny jabs.
Samsung Biologics is acquiring Switzerland's PolyPeptide Group in an all-cash tender offer.
44.31 Swiss francs per share.
$1.8 billion total.
The biggest biopharma M&A deal in South Korean history.
But here's what makes this genuinely interesting.
GLP-1 drugs — the Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro family — aren't a trend anymore.
They're a machine.
The global GLP-1 market is already sitting north of $80 billion in 2026.
And it's still climbing at double-digit rates every year.
There's just one problem.
Nobody can make enough of the stuff.
Building large-scale peptide manufacturing plants takes 3 to 5 years and billions in capex.
Eli Lilly alone is pouring $27 billion into US manufacturing just to keep up with demand.
So instead of building from scratch, Samsung did what Samsung does best.

One CDMO. Every modality. Every major obesity drugmaker as a potential client.
As PolyPeptide's chairman Peter Wilden put it, the board found the offer "compelling" — certain cash, today, no waiting around.
The deal should close by year-end.
And once it does, Samsung won't just be building your phone.
It'll quietly be helping build the world's weight-loss drugs too.
