BloomTech, formerly Lambda School, has announced a significant shift in its tuition model, discontinuing Income Share Agreements (ISAs) for all new students enrolling after May 1, 2024. The coding bootcamp will now offer a flat tuition fee of $15,000, coupled with a full refund guarantee if graduates do not secure a job within six months of completion. This change was revealed by CEO Austen Allred via a social media post.
"Students who enroll after May 1, 2024 will no longer be subject to the ISA. Instead, they will pay a flat tuition of $15,000, with a full refund if they don't get a job within six months," Austen Allred stated in the tweet.
This new policy marks a departure from BloomTech's long-standing reliance on ISAs, a financing model where students paid a percentage of their future income after securing a qualifying job. While the company's official website still outlines various tuition options including ISAs, the CEO's announcement indicates a strategic pivot for upcoming enrollments. The existing website details a "Tuition Refund Guarantee" for upfront and deferred tuition options, promising a 100% refund plus an additional 10% if a graduate does not find a job paying at least $50,000 annually within 365 days, provided certain career commitments are met.
The move to a flat fee and a shorter, more direct job guarantee period could simplify the financial commitment for prospective students. Income Share Agreements have faced scrutiny in the past regarding their terms, transparency, and the potential for students to pay back significantly more than the advertised tuition cost, particularly if they secured high-paying positions. By offering a fixed tuition and a robust, time-bound refund policy, BloomTech aims to enhance clarity and reduce financial uncertainty for its learners.
BloomTech, known for its intensive tech education programs in areas like web development and data science, has consistently emphasized job placement outcomes. The introduction of a $15,000 flat fee with a six-month job guarantee underscores the institution's confidence in its curriculum and career services. This updated model positions BloomTech to attract students seeking a clear, upfront investment with a strong assurance of career success in the competitive tech industry.
