The Karnataka government has decided to roll out STEAM-based education across all Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) β starting at the high school level.
Science. Technology. Engineering. Arts. Mathematics.
Yes, Arts β and that's the quiet genius of it.
Because future jobs won't just need coders.
They'll need coders who can imagine.
Forget the old rhythm of read β memorise β write exam β forget.
The new model looks nothing like that.
Students will now learn through:
It's project-based. It's messy. It's hands-on.
And it's exactly how the world actually works.
The blueprint isn't a guess.
In Kalasa, Chikkamagaluru, one KPS has already been running robotics, coding and AI lessons through an Atal Tinkering Lab.
Kids who'd never seen a sensor are now prototyping with them.
π And ATLs are no small experiment β over 10,000 labs are live across India, touching more than 3 million students from Grade 6 to 12.
Karnataka basically said: if it works in one KPS, why not all of them?
KPS aren't tiny experiments either.
That's a lot of future engineers, designers and founders being built in plain sight.
Commissioner Vikas Kishor Suralkar put it simply β the curriculum is being rewired for the future job market.
And that market is brutal.
AI. Machine learning. Cybersecurity. Data science. Space tech.
None of these reward rote learning.
All of them reward kids who can build, break, fix and reimagine.
For decades, innovation in India was something that happened in elite labs and private campuses.
Now it's walking into a government high school in a small Karnataka town.
With a soldering iron in one hand and a sketchbook in the other.
That's not a curriculum update.
