A woman drawing teacher gets a transfer order.
She's ready. Qualified. Willing.
And then the school says… no thanks.
The reason?
She's a woman. It's a boys' school. They don't have the infrastructure for her.
Read that again.
Meet the petitioner — a special teacher (drawing) at Sri Renuga Hindu High School in Tamil Nadu.
In 2024-25, she was declared surplus.
On May 28, 2025, she got transferred to Gurugnana Sampandar Hindu Higher Secondary School — a government-aided boys' school in Virudhunagar district.
She showed up. The school shut the door.
Their objection:
And the education authorities? They just… agreed. Sent her elsewhere.
She fought back. Twice.
First round — she even filed an undertaking. No special treatment. No extra facilities. Just let me teach.
The court told the authorities to reconsider on November 6, 2025.
Instead of independently deciding, they went back to the school. Asked again. Got the same no. Shuffled her out again.
So she came back to court.
On July 3, Justice B. Pugalendhi cut through the whole thing.
👉 Neither the Tamil Nadu Private Schools Act nor its rules prohibit posting a woman teacher to a boys' school.
👉 The school's objection has no legal basis.
👉 Authorities can't outsource their decision to the school's discomfort.
Then came the line that stings.
"When the Government spends several hundreds of crores of rupees every year towards the salaries of teachers, it is under a corresponding obligation to ensure that such teachers are effectively utilised."

Public money flowing. Students losing.
And this is in a country where only around 44% of government school teachers are women — meaning countless boys already go through school never being taught by one.
The court's message is quietly radical:
A teacher is a teacher.
A classroom is a classroom.
"Infrastructure" is not code for we'd rather not.
⚡ Deployment orders were reopened. The authorities were told to decide afresh — strictly as per law.
One drawing teacher. One stubborn petition.
And a ruling that just redrew the line for every boys' school in Tamil Nadu.
