Washington, D.C. – Ian Banks, Director of Science and Innovation at the Foundation for American Innovation (FAI), expressed enthusiasm for his participation on the second day of the Energy Imperatives Summit alongside Conner Prochaska, Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). Banks stated in a tweet, > "Excited to be speaking for the second day of the Energy Imperatives Summit with Conner Prochaska of @ARPAE !" The two-day event, held on June 9-10, 2026, brought together leaders to discuss critical aspects of American energy.

The 2026 Energy Imperatives Summit, co-hosted by the American Conservation Coalition (ACC), American Affairs, and the Foundation for American Innovation (FAI), drew hundreds of attendees. The forum focused on restoring American energy dominance through discussions centered on three key pillars: tech-neutral permitting reform, capital deployment, and public-private innovation. Participants engaged in policy-dense programming, including plenary sessions featuring prominent voices from government, industry, and finance.

Conner Prochaska, who was confirmed as ARPA-E Director in March 2026, leads the Department of Energy’s efforts to develop and deploy transformative technologies. His agency is tasked with strengthening America’s energy security, economy, and technological leadership by investing in high-risk, high-reward research. Prochaska previously served as ARPA-E’s Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor, and as the DOE’s first Chief Commercialization Officer.

Under Prochaska’s leadership, ARPA-E has been at the forefront of significant energy initiatives. In April 2026, the agency announced a $135 million investment aimed at accelerating fusion energy commercialization, a technology Prochaska has publicly championed as crucial for future energy supply. Additionally, ARPA-E allocated $34 million for 12 projects integrating artificial intelligence with automated laboratory systems to advance industrial catalyst development.

Ian Banks, as Director of Science and Innovation at FAI, contributed to the summit's dialogue, underscoring the importance of innovation in achieving energy goals. The summit served as a crucial platform for stakeholders to collaborate on strategies that ensure the United States not only keeps pace but leads in the global energy race through the 21st century.
