A seven-month-old startup just raised $10 million to put nuclear reactors on boats.

Not a joke.

Bluecore Energy wants to build small modular reactors on floating barges, park them next to ports and data centers, and sell them clean electricity straight off the water.

The founder, Kofi Asante, used to work at Uber Freight.

Now he's moving nuclear power the same way he once moved trucks.

On demand. Wherever it's needed.

⚑ How does a reactor on a boat even work?

It's simpler than it sounds.

  • πŸ”₯ The reactor heats water
  • πŸ’¨ Steam spins a turbine
  • πŸ”Œ Turbine makes electricity
  • 🌊 The whole loop is closed and water-cooled

And here's the twist: when the job's done, the barge just sails away.

No trucks. No transmission towers. No emissions from moving the plant itself.

πŸ—οΈ This has been done before β€” barely

Russia already built one of these.

The Akademik Lomonosov, the world's only operating floating nuclear plant, has been quietly powering a remote Arctic town of about 4,000 people since 2019.

Bluecore is aiming much bigger.

πŸ‘‰ Its target: power the equivalent of 15,000 homes, or an entire major port.

🧠 The real bet: AI's power problem

Data centers are drinking up water and electricity from local grids everywhere.

Asante says AI execs have told him something telling β€” they'd rather not fight communities for power and water at all.

A reactor floating at sea, with its own cooling water built in, solves both problems at once.

Bluecore already has a port terminal, a barge, and a test reactor vessel lined up.

Safety-wise: uranium clad in steel, wrapped in concrete, lined again in steel.

Refueling? Once every few years.

🎯 Who's betting on it

The round was led by Slauson & Co., with checks from Harlem Capital, Precursor Ventures, Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, and even actor Kevin Hart's Hartbeat Ventures.

Everyone's chasing gigawatts for AI right now.

Bluecore is betting the fastest way there… floats.

That's all for now!
