Picture this.

Batman is dead.

Gotham is burning.

And the Joker… is the one hunting his killer.

Not a hero. Not exactly a villain anymore.

Just a clown with a vendetta — and an identity crisis.

Welcome to 'Joker: Laugh Riot' — DC's first ever anime series. 🃏

🔥 The premise is wild

Someone took out the Dark Knight.

Which means someone stole Joker's kill.

So the Clown Prince tears through Gotham's underworld looking for the killer… and the deeper he goes, the more he edges from villain into vigilante.

The twist? Without Batman, he has no idea who he even is anymore. 🤯

🎬 The director is the real flex

DC handed the keys to Yasuhiro Aoki — the award-winning mind behind ChaO and a co-architect of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

This isn't a Western studio cosplaying anime.

This is the real thing. Built in Japan. Built right.

🦇 But Joker wasn't the only bomb dropped

At Annecy this week, DC Studios + Warner Bros. Animation unloaded an entire slate:

  • 🦇 Absolute Batman — Scott Snyder's best-selling comic gets animated, with Snyder himself as showrunner and Nick Dragotta producing
  • 🐶 Krypto — a brand new series from Chowder and SpongeBob alum C.H. Greenblatt, following the super-pup adopted by a gang of wannabe criminals
  • 🦸 Mister Miracle — Tom King's beloved run finally headed for screens
  • 🍣 Get Jiro — premiering this fall on Adult Swim
  • 🟢 My Adventures with Green Lantern — the next chapter of the Adventure-verse
  • Starfire! and DC Super Powers rounding out the kids slate

🏆 And the quiet record-breaker

Teen Titans Go just entered its tenth season.

That makes it the longest-running DC animated show. Ever.

Ten years of that theme song. Let it sink in. 🎵

⚡ The bigger play

Tom King said it best from the Annecy stage:

"We can create our own Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Mad Men level shows."

That's the bet here.

Not just cartoons for kids. Not just nostalgia plays.

Prestige animation. Anime. Adult drama. A full-spectrum assault on every screen, every age, every taste.

Marvel owns the live-action box office.

DC just made a very loud move to own animation. 🎯

That's all for now!
