Los Angeles, CA – Veteran actor James Handy, 81, known for his roles in films such as "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Jumanji," was found fatally stabbed on Wednesday morning in the front yard of a home in Tarzana. Authorities have since charged Michael Gledhill, 44, the son of Handy's girlfriend, with murder in connection with the incident.

Police responded to a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. where the caller stated, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin." Upon arrival, officers found Handy unconscious with a stab wound to his chest. He was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Michael Gledhill, who lives at the home with his mother, reportedly flagged down responding officers, telling them he was "the one they were looking for." Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman expressed sorrow, stating, > "This is not how anyone’s life should end, stabbed in the chest and left dying in the front yard of a home."

Gledhill was charged with murder on Friday, with bail set at $2 million. He did not appear at his arraignment, and his lawyer indicated he was "unable to assist" in his defense, leading to the case being transferred to a mental health court for psychological evaluations. Handy's wife, Elisabeth DeMarse, mentioned that Handy and his partner had previously felt threatened by Gledhill, who reportedly suffered from mental health problems.

Handy enjoyed a prolific career as a character actor, appearing in approximately 150 films and television shows. Beyond his roles as the bartender Jimmy in "Top Gun: Maverick" and a doctor in "Logan," his credits include "Arachnophobia," "Jumanji," "NCIS: Los Angeles," and "Law & Order." Pam Ellis-Evenas, Handy's talent agent, described him as > "a talented, humble, and gracious client and friend."
