Lake Elsinore, California – A recent social media post has drawn attention to alleged widespread methamphetamine use and the presence of "tweaker homes" in an area described as "behind Costco in the Grove" in Lake Elsinore. The tweet, from an account named Wall Street Apes, claims the situation resembles a "third world country" and suggests law enforcement is not adequately addressing the issue.

"This is a 'Hive' of tweaker homes in Lake Elsinore, California. This is behind Costco in the Grove," the tweet stated, adding, "It looks like a third world country. You can see it seems they have security who brings people in and out." The post further alleged, "I was able to find multiple residents all saying the exact same thing about the area, meth is everywhere."

The City of Lake Elsinore has acknowledged ongoing challenges with homelessness and drug activity, implementing various initiatives to address these concerns. Official resources from the city's website indicate a comprehensive approach including outreach, prevention, and resource provision for individuals experiencing homelessness. The city also operates "The Anchor," a crisis stabilization housing complex for chronically homeless individuals.

Law enforcement in Lake Elsinore has previously conducted operations targeting homeless encampments and related illegal activities. In 2022, a "quality of life" operation resulted in 15 arrests, primarily for misdemeanor crimes. Earlier operations in 2018 saw 53 individuals arrested across 43 illegal encampments on charges including trespassing and felony drug offenses, according to reports from Patch.com.

Despite these efforts, the tweet criticizes the perceived inaction of authorities, stating, "It blows my mind that those things can be right out in the open but law enforcement doesn’t do anything, these people are just immune to laws everyone else has to follow." The city encourages residents to report concerns related to homeless issues via the Alert LE app and illegal activity through the police department's non-emergency line. The issue of homelessness and associated challenges, including drug use, remains a complex and persistent concern for communities across California, including Lake Elsinore.
