A homeowner in Los Angeles's Mid-Wilshire neighborhood successfully deterred a group of up to five masked individuals attempting to burglarize two residences overnight. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday in the 800 block of Mullen Avenue, where the suspects were seen moving between properties. The homeowner's intervention, coupled with the sound of an approaching LAPD air unit, caused the masked group to flee the scene before gaining entry.

Peje Kharrazi, the homeowner who confronted the suspects, described them as "pretty professional because they were dressed in all black – hoodies, masks, gloves." He noted their brazenness, stating, "even when I yelled out, it seemed as if they were just continuing what they were doing." Kharrazi encountered the group attempting to break into his home and his neighbor's, both of which were occupied at the time.

A Los Angeles Police Department officer confirmed the call came in after the homeowner observed the masked and gloved suspects. The officer indicated that there were no signs of forced entry into either home, suggesting the homeowner's shouts and the arriving police helicopter likely spooked the individuals. No arrests were made as the suspects had fled by the time officers arrived.

This incident is not isolated for Kharrazi, who revealed his home has been targeted three times in the last four years. He voiced concerns about the rising crime, stating, "We definitely need leadership [and] stricter laws because it doesn’t seem like [burglars] are afraid at all." Residents in the Mid-Wilshire area have expressed growing fear over what they believe are organized burglary crews increasingly targeting homes.

Recent reports from early 2026 highlighted a string of similar break-ins and ransacked homes in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood, leading residents to believe they are being specifically targeted. Surveillance footage from previous incidents has shown masked individuals scoping out properties. The ongoing pattern underscores a broader concern among Los Angeles residents regarding property crime and the perceived lack of deterrence.
