Oakland, CA – Darryl Roach, 56, was arrested Sunday after being found driving one of five vehicles stolen from an Alameda County parking garage. The incident involved the theft of two vehicles belonging to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, two from another county agency, and one from a rental car company. Authorities discovered the burglary at the Alameda County Parking Garage at 165 13th Street early Sunday morning, leading to a rapid response and recovery efforts.

Deputies located four of the stolen vehicles within a mile and a half of the garage by late Sunday afternoon, utilizing automated license plate readers. Roach was subsequently detained on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges including burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, with a special allegation for committing a crime while out on bail.

According to reporter Henry K. Lee, Roach was previously charged in May with having ammunition in a stolen Chevy following a stop by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Oakland. This detail, reported via social media, highlights a pattern of alleged criminal activity. Court records further indicate that Roach has a history of 10 prior felony convictions dating back to 1991, adding to the severity of the current charges.

Roach is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court on Wednesday. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has stated it is reviewing security protocols at the affected facility. This review aims to prevent future unauthorized access to county property and ensure the safety of official vehicles and equipment.
