OAKLAND, California – Three individuals were killed and five others sustained injuries late Saturday after a speeding vehicle careened into a crowd of people and parked cars at the intersection of 85th Avenue and International Boulevard in East Oakland. The incident, which occurred just before 11:15 p.m., left a scene of devastation and prompted a swift emergency response.

Authorities confirmed that three people were pronounced dead at the scene. Three additional victims were transported to local hospitals, with two in critical condition and one listed as serious. Two more individuals, including the suspected driver, suffered minor injuries and were awaiting medical transport, according to fire officials.

The driver, identified as a juvenile, was reportedly speeding recklessly when their vehicle struck a parked car before veering onto the sidewalk and into the group of pedestrians. The suspect allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was detained by witnesses until police arrived. The Oakland Police Department has not yet released further details regarding potential charges or the identities of those involved.

The tragic event highlights ongoing concerns about traffic safety in Oakland. The city's traffic fatality dashboard had recorded six traffic deaths from January through April, including three pedestrians, prior to this incident. This crash follows another recent mass-injury pedestrian collision in Oakland on May 2, where seven people were injured after a driver struck pedestrians in the city’s uptown neighborhood.
