Marty O'Donnell, the Republican candidate for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District, recently issued a stark warning on social media, alleging that actions by Democrats in Virginia to "disenfranchise the conservative voters of their state" serve as a national precedent. O'Donnell, a video game composer known for his work on the Halo series, stated in a tweet, "What's happening in Virginia should serve as a warning to the rest of the country. Democrats gained power and the first thing they did was invest all their political capital into disenfranchising the conservative voters of their state." He further asserted, "This is what the Democrat machine will do to all Americans if given the chance. And it's one of the many reasons I'm running to defeat their loyal soldier Susie Lee.
O'Donnell is challenging incumbent Democratic Representative Susie Lee for the Nevada seat, a district described as one of the state's most competitive battlegrounds. This marks O'Donnell's second attempt at the seat, having previously run in 2024 where he placed fourth in the Republican primary. His current campaign gained significant traction with a recent endorsement from former President Donald Trump, a condition O'Donnell had set for continuing his bid.
The 3rd Congressional District, encompassing parts of western Las Vegas and southern Clark County, has historically been a swing district. Following redistricting in 2021 by the Democrat-controlled legislature, the district's boundaries were redrawn, reportedly shifting voters from more conservative areas into other districts, which an analysis by The Nevada Independent indicated swung the district nearly 5 percentage points toward Democrats in 2024. Despite this, Trump narrowly won the district in 2024, making Lee one of 13 House Democrats to win in districts carried by the former president.
O'Donnell's campaign focuses on "America First" policies, including border security, fiscal conservatism, and supporting the Trump agenda. His social media post underscores a central theme of his campaign, portraying the election as a critical fight against what he describes as the "Democrat machine." Representative Lee, who has held the seat since 2018, is expected to run for re-election, setting the stage for a closely watched contest in a pivotal swing district.
