Today is June 25 β the date the southwest monsoon is supposed to officially knock on Himachal's door every year.
It hasn't shown up.
π No onset declared.
π No grand entry.
π Just a delayed RSVP from the skies.
The IMD has already slapped a yellow alert on the state for June 29 and 30.
Isolated heavy rainfall. Intensifying activity. Temperatures sliding 2β4Β°C in the next few days.
Shimla, Dharamshala, Sundernagar β all got drenched on Wednesday.
The monsoon hasn't arrived. The rain didn't get the memo.
This year is sliding toward the slower end of the chart.
The monsoon raced beautifully across Kerala, peninsular India, and the northeast.
Then it hit eastern India⦠and stalled for nearly two weeks.
It's moving again now β through central, western and parts of eastern India.
But the northwest? Still waiting its turn.
IMD Shimla director Shobhit Katiyar says a clearer picture should land in the next 2β3 days.
Even without the monsoon officially arriving, the damage has already started.
In Kinnaur, a flash flood ripped through Kacharang Nalla on Wednesday β triggered by nothing more than light rains.
SDM Neha Negi and her team rushed to the spot.
The administration's message to residents was blunt:
π Stay away from rivers and streams. Avoid unnecessary travel.
Himachal's hills don't need a full-blown monsoon to turn dangerous.
A light shower already snapped a water line. Imagine what June 29 brings.
The monsoon is late.
But the mountains are already speaking.
