
Somewhere in a quiet corner of Hingoli district, Maharashtra, scientists are building what one Caltech physicist calls the most sensitive machine humans have ever made.
Not in California.
Not in Germany.
In India.
Professor Rana Adhikari — one of the lead minds behind LIGO in the US — dropped this claim at a lecture in Pune this week.
And he didn't hedge.
"This will be the most sensitive detector in the world," he said. Beyond what the US has right now.
LIGO detects gravitational waves — ripples in spacetime itself, predicted by Einstein over a century ago.
In 2015, LIGO US finally caught one.
Proof that colliding black holes literally shake the fabric of the universe.
Now India is building its own version.

LIGO India won't just copy the American blueprint.
It'll start with older, 2015-era hardware — then upgrade every single piece.
"We don't want to accept hardware from 2015," Adhikari admitted.
Everything gets rebuilt smarter.
And the biggest leap?
This will be the world's first AI-first gravitational wave detector.
Human scientists and artificial intelligence jointly controlling instruments so precise they can sense a ripple smaller than a proton.
That's not incremental.
That's a revolution in speed.
Adhikari revealed there was actually a debate — should the next LIGO go to Australia or India?
He pushed hard for India.
And won.
Approved back in 2016.
Ground work only began this year.
Nearly a decade of waiting, finally moving.
By 2030, a village in Maharashtra could be listening to the universe more clearly than anywhere else on Earth.
