On July 16, 2024, a rock older than Earth's oceans crashed through a family's bedroom ceiling in New Jersey.
Exactly two years later, we finally know what was inside it.
And it's stranger than fiction.
A fireball tore over New York City at nearly 32,000 mph, cracked the sky with a sonic boom, and slammed a two-pound fragment straight through a roof in Hillsborough.
The homeowner heard a crash. Smelled sulphur. Found black dust on the bed.
Then did something that would make NASA proud.
No bare hands. No panic.
Just gloves, foil, and glass jars.
That five-minute decision is the reason scientists now call this one of the most pristine meteorites of its kind ever recovered.
Researchers traced the rock's path using doorbell camera footage — yes, really — back to the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
It turned out to be a CM-type carbonaceous chondrite.
Translation: a time capsule from before Earth existed.
Inside, scientists found hundreds of amino acids.
Amino acids build proteins. Proteins build life.
Here's the part that stops you cold.
Most of these amino acids don't exist in life on Earth.
They're not from here. They never were.
As co-author Dr. Danny Glavin put it — they are truly extraterrestrial in origin.
This isn't just a cool space souvenir sitting in a jar.
It's a clue to one of science's biggest open questions:
