Turns out — they might have grammar.

Elie chose zebra finches for one simple reason:

"I'm really super-honoured," she said.
Adding that she hopes this contributes to the "great endeavour" of one day actually communicating with animals.
For most of human history, we've been the only species we could truly talk to.
