In the town of Cutral Co, a place better known for oil rigs than tourism, Argentina just unveiled the tallest Messi statue on Earth.

It officially opened on June 16 — the exact day Argentina kicked off their 2026 World Cup campaign.

The statue doesn't just show Messi.
It recreates the moment.
Qatar. 2022. The final whistle. A nation finally exhaling after 36 years.
One hand holds the Argentina jersey.
The other points to the sky — the gesture he always makes for his late grandmother.
"He is Argentina's natural ambassador," Beroisa said. "For me, it was important not only as an artist, but as an Argentine."
And it already dethroned the previous record holder — a Messi statue in India.
A second tribute is melting hearts.
A mural in Berazategui, painted in just 18 days.
But here's the twist 👉 it includes the names of 1,300+ fans who showed up to help paint it.
People drove in from across the country just to add their name next to Messi's smile.
Even Messi himself reacted: "Crazy… thank you very much to all of you."
Argentina is going through a rough patch. Inflation. Politics. Tension.
But as artist Leonel García put it:
"Messi unites everyone — every social class, every political sector."
He turns 39 today.
