Char Dham Yatra suspended for two days due to heavy rain and landslides: official says

Thousands of pilgrims are on hold right now — because the mountains said not today.

The Char Dham Yatra has just been suspended for two full days.

⛰️ Why the sudden stop?

Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swaroop didn't mince words.

Landslides have blocked the routes at multiple points.

The weather department has fired off a heavy rainfall alert on top of that.

So officials pulled the plug — for pilgrim safety, full stop.

• 🚧 The Kedarnath Highway is blocked near Munkatiya after a hillside gave way
• 🌉 A bridge over the Tons River has been damaged, cutting off connectivity
• 🌧️ IMD has issued Red and Orange alerts across the region
• 🛕 Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri — all four shrines — are affected

Just eight days ago, on July 20, rising rivers and landslide risk forced the same call.
